General states that 233 should be transferred to districts outside
the Borough, as the mothers were not Hackney residents, and 26
births which took place in other districts should be transferred to
Hackney. These corrections having been made, there remain 122
illegitimate births amongst Hackney residents. This is equivalent
to an illegitimate birth-rate of 36.3 per 1,000 births.
Notification of Births Act, 1907.—Under the provisions of this
Act notifications were received of the birth within the Borough of
3,881 live children and 123 still-born children. Information with
regard to the birth of children to Hackney mothers at addresses
outside the Borough was received in respect of 602 living and 21
still-born children, whilst particulars of the birth of children within
the Borough whose home addresses were situated in other areas were
forwarded in the case of 1,168 living and 33 still-born children.

The following table shows the sources from which the notifications of births (corrected and uncorrected) were received:-

DEATHS.
The deaths registered in the Borough during 1931 numbered
2,681, but of these 642 were deaths of non-residents who died inside
the Borough. There were, however, 454 residents of Hackney who
died during the year outside the Borough. On making the necessary
corrections, the corrected number of deaths amongst Hackney
residents is 2,493. This is an increase of 112 upon the number of
deaths occurring during 1930. The general death-rate from all
causes for the year 1931 is 11.4 per 1,000 of the population.
The following table shows the number of deaths and the deathrates
in England and Wales, London, Hackney and the Registration
Sub-districts of the Borough in 1931, and the rates for the previous
four years:-
