The deaths from Scarlet Fever were 11 as against 13 in the year
1899. This is a remarkably low mortality, and it is the smallest number
of deaths on record in this parish for one year.

189351189824
189419189913

Of the 356 cases notified, as many as 316 were removed to hospital,
The deaths in the hospital were 9, a mortality of 2.8 per cent.
40 cases were treated at home, of which 2 died, a mortality of 5.0
per cent.
The percentage of cases removed to hospital was 88.0.
The percentage of deaths in the cases treated in hospital has been
much below the average for the last eight years, due, one may fairly
suppose, to an improvement in the methods of treatment adopted on those
of previous periods. In the 5 years—1893 to 1897—the percentage of
deaths ranged from 5 to 7 for those treated in hospital, and 2.5 to 4 for
those treated at home. During the last three years—1898 to 1900—
matters have changed. The percentage of deaths for the hospital cases
has been from 3 to 4, whilst for the those remaining at home 4 to 5.
Diphtheria.
The deaths from this disease have fallen from the high point reached
last year, the number being 70 this year against 104 in 18 9.
The total number of cases notified, including Membranous Croup,
was 447.
