The source of contamination of storage on board two ships, after investigation, indicated
that the cause arose from small ports in the Middle and Far East. In each case cleaning of tanks
followed by chlorination of storage tanks and supply lines was carried out in accordance with the
recommendations laid down in the Ship Master's Medical Guide.
The 95.78% of 'Satisfactory', 'Good' and 'Excellent' results in the mains supply of the
Districts, as shown in Table 2, exceeded the average for the Port during the past seven years. A
result, no doubt, that the Authority's 'Code of Practice' (detailed in last year's report) and
policy of frequent sampling has done much to achieve.
