Smoked Sausage.
On 29th November one of your Inspectors detained a consignment of smoked
Sausages from Bremen, because there were on the casings a large number of dark red
circular patches from one-eighth to one-quarter of an inch in diameter, and it appeared
possible that these might have been produced by the larvse of a round worm,
(Esophagostomum Columbianum, the cause of a condition known as "Pimply Gut,"
on account of which consignments of salted casings are from time to time condemned
in the Port.
