ss. " La Paz " arrived from Africa on the 2nd August. On the 3rd July a
wireless operator was taken ill with symptoms suspicious of smallpox, and was
landed at Balboa on the 8th July. On the 7th July an assistant steward fainted
and was also landed for observation as a case of suspected smallpox. All crew were
vaccinated on the 8th July. Quarters on vessel were disinfected—effects landed
with patients, and bedding destroyed. No fresh cases occurred.
ss. " Clan Murray " arrived from Bombay on the 12th August. On April
5th, when vessel was en route for Fremantle, a case of smallpox occurred, and was
landed there. All the crew were vaccinated and the vessel disinfected. No other
case occurred.
