MEASLES.

Sixty-eight cases of this disease have been notified during the year.
This is a considerable number, and is above the average for the Port.
It will be seen, on reference to the Table, that a large proportion of these
cases are due to an epidemic of this disease on the training ship "Worcester."
where, as is usual when disease breaks out in any places where the inmates
are of a susceptible age, all who have not previously suffered from the disease
are attacked.
Each case as it occurred was promptly isolated in the ship's hospital on shore,
and this probably prevented the epidemic assuming larger proportions.
The total number of cases was 39. Thorough measures of disinfection
were adopted, and as soon as possible the boys were sent away, and the vessel
thoroughly disinfected.
