SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA.
WATER SUPPLIES.
During the year 253 samples of water were submitted for
bacteriological examination in the Council's laboratory.
Samples were taken as follows:—
Main Water Supply (Sutton Well and Woodmansterne
Well) (An average per month of 13
samples) 163
Private wells 77
Other waters 13
The main water supply continues to be satisfactory both in
quantity and in bacteriological purity.
No cases of illness associated with pollution of the water supplies
have been recorded during the year. The chlorination of water from
private manufacturing wells was continued throughout the year and
examination in the Council's laboratory showed that the standard of
purity was high.
DRAINACE AND SEWERACE.
The Council have continued the maintenance of the soil and
storm water drainage systems during the year. Because of the war,
however, no extensions have been undertaken.
RIVERS AND STREAMS.
In addition to the normal maintenance of the River Wandle
undertaken throughout the year, certain sections of the river were
cleaned out during 1943, silt, tree branches and obstructions being
removed.
Certain water-courses feeding the River Wandle were also cleaned.
