It will be seen in Table No. 1, Column No. 1, that the total number of Nuisances removed is 17,262, but that number does not give the
details of each separate case. For instance: the case may be an Offensive Privy—requiring, 1st. Cesspool to be emptied and filled up. 2nd. To
be Trapped and Panned. 3rd, Pipes to be laid from Siphons to Sewer, &c. If each of these were shown, as a distinct work executed, the number
in the Table and Column above alluded to, would be fully doubled.
* The number of houses shown as over-crowded have been remedied by the Inspectors alone, the cases not being such as could be referred
to the police.
+ The houses or rooms referred to as unfit for human habitation, have also been remedied by the Inspectors, the Police having no power
to act. Three of them were cellars or kitchens, not constructed according to the requirements of the Metropolis Management Act, relating to the
occupation of underground rooms as dwellings.
