FOOD COMPLAINTS
During the year a number of complaints were received about foods
sold in the district, all of which were investigated.
Five complaints were received concerning the condition of bread.
In one case where there was mould present and in another where there
were particles of iron and oil the Council decided to prosecute and fines
of £20 were imposed by the Magistrates. On another occasion the end of
a knife blade was found in a loaf of bread. The broken knife was traced
in the bakery and the manufacturers were fined £20 when prosecuted. In
the other cases the manufacturers were advised that the Council was
seriously concerned about complaints of this nature.
