Action Taken.
(a) Butter (1302 Formal) contained 16.3% water instead of 16%.
Insufficient to justify action.
(b) Condensed Milk (1187 Informal). Contents of several tins
found to be mouldy and returned to Condensed Milk Pool
at request of Ministry of Food.
(c) Milk—
(i) (1217 Formal). Deficiency equal to 1% added water,
Subsequent samples genuine.
(ii) (1262 Informal). Deficiency equal to abstraction of 11%
of the Milk Fat. Subsequent formal sample (1274)
showed deficiency equal to abstraction of 10% of the
Milk Fat. Proceedings were instituted against the
Dairy Co. who sued the Farmer. The latter was able
to prove that the milk was as given by the cow.
(iii) (1263 Informal). Channel Island Milk containing 3.88%
fat. Subsequent Formal sample 1275 contained 3.65%
Milk Fat. These were genuine milk but below the 4%
standard prescribed by the Milk (Control of Maximum
Prices) Order. They were referred to the Ministry of
Food.
(d) Sponge and Cake Mixture (1188 Informal). Deterioration
due to age. Carbon Dioxide figure only 0.2% instead of
0.4%. Stock was surrendered and destroyed.
(e) Suet (1220 Informal). Contained 81% beef fat instead of
83%. Subsequent formal sample (1228) was genuine.
