Legal Proceedings. Legal proceedings were instituted during
the year with the results stated :—
1. Failure to comply with statutory notices—Section 93,
Public Health Act, 1936, in respect of two properties:—
Orders of Court to abate nuisances within 56 days.
2. Failure to comply with statutory notices—Section 93,
Public Health Act, 1936, in respect of six properties:—
Orders of Court to abate nuisances within 28 days.
Owner fined 40/- and costs in each case.
Drainage Work. At 15 houses the drainage systems were
entirely reconstructed and at 38 houses extensive repairs to
drains were carried out. Smoke and water tests were applied
to the drains of houses in 107 instances, and obstructions were
removed from drains at 61 houses.
Food Supply. The total number of inspections made to
premises where articles of food are prepared or exposed for
sale was 1,369. Towards the end of the year a systematic
survey of all food shops and catering establishments was commenced
with a view to raising the standard of cleanliness
under which foods are prepared, stored and distributed. At a
number of premises, improvements in sanitary conditions were
effected.

Unsound Food.The undermentioned articles of food were found, upon inspection, to be unfit for human consumption; were surrendered and either destroyed or disposed of for animal feeding or salvage:'—
