PREMATURE BABIES.
There were 54 premature births notified during the year.
This is a considerable increase over previous years. Last year
there were 37 and the previous year 38.
13 of these babies failed to survive one month. Of those
whose weights are known 2 were under 2 lbs. weight at birth
and a further 3 were under 3 lbs. Only 2 of them were over
5 lbs. at birth. Of the 41 who did survive one month 1 was
3 lbs. and a further 8 were under 4 lbs.
The total number of premature babies notified during the
year were as follows, born:—
(a) At home 7
(b) In hospital 47
The number of those born at home:—
(a) Who were nursed entirely at home 5
(b) Who died during the first 24 hours —
(c) Who survived at the end of one month 5
The number of those born in hospital:—
(a) Who died during the first 24 hours 7
