Day Nurseries. There were three nurseries in operation
during the year, though from the receipt of the Ministry
circular, advocating the discouragement of mothers of babies
under two from going out to work, and announcing the withdrawal
of the full reimbursement, it was decided to convert
the Manor House Nursery into a nursery school if the Education
authority could be persuaded to take it over. It was,
however, continued as a day nursery until the end of the year.
The appended figures show the extent of the use of
nurseries by the mothers during the year.
All efforts to recruit wardens during the year were fruitless.
Two of the nurseries were without a warden or teacher
for the whole of the year. The seriousness of this disadvantage
has been commented on before. At the time of writing this
report our last teacher has resigned, so we now have still two
nurseries but no teacher in either.
