Health Visiting. The table appended shows the scope of
the work of the Health Visitors. While it is generally recognised
that figures alone are a most unreliable guide to the
value of such work, it is noteworthy that throughout a most
difficult period, 7,919 home visits were made compared with
8,131 for the previous year. The number of visits to children
under one year has increased by 395 compared with 1943. After
the demands on the Health Visitors' time by clinic sessions,
special visits, and visits under their child life protection
responsibilities have been satisfied, visits to new births is
always regarded as a first claim. For the past few years such
visits have been increasing by from three to four hundred
each year. The increasing work has made the appointment
of an additional Health Visitor necessary, and it is gratifying
to record that for the next year the Council have decided to
obtain this assistance for this very essential work.
