civilian patients only).

2. The County and Public Assistance Hospitals. Under
existing arrangements, patients from this district receiving
treatment in County Hospitals are admitted, in most instances
to the Kingston County Hospital at Wolverton Avenue.
Tuberculosis. The County Sanatorium, Milford—300 beds.
The Surrey County Council is responsible for the AntiTuberculosis
Scheme in the district. The County Sanatorium
at Milford constitutes the main institutional provision, and
32 persons were admitted from Merton and Morden during
1944, whilst 103 other persons received treatment in other
institutions.
In Surrey, as in other counties, the Sanatoria accommodation
is inadequate to meet the present demands made upon it.
Every effort is being made by using other accommodation and
by selection of cases, to mitigate the shortage which, as mentioned
before in this Report, is largely contributed to by
shortage of nursing staff.
