MATERNAL MORTALITY.
In the year 1944 one mother only died as a result of
childbirth, giving a maternal mortality rate of 0.84. This
figure has created a new low record. Last year's figure of 0.85
being the lowest previous figure ever recorded for the district.
This figure compares very favourably with the latest published
figure for England and Wales, which is 1.84.
