Meningococcal Infection
One case of meningococcal meningitis occurred in a girl of 17 years
who was a resident of premises used as a private old peoples home. She
was removed to hospital where she made an uneventful recovery. No
further cases developed as a result of contact.
Poliomyelitis
As in the year before no case of poliomyelitis was notified.
Poliomyelitis Vaccination
That part of the Ministry of Health scheme operated by the County
Council provides vaccination against poliomyelitis for individuals in the
following priority groups and those between the ages of 6 months and
40 years—certain groups who are at special risk such as practitioners
and practising nurses—public health staffs, dentists, ambulance staffs etc.
Individuals outside these priority groups may be vaccinated by the
general practitioners with vaccine supplied through the pharmaceutical
service.
