The use of hospital facilities for childbirth continues to grow.
Four out of five Carshalton babies are now born in maternity institutions
whereas twelve years ago less than half that proportion were not born
in their own homes. This liberal allocation of hospital accommodation
to maternity is thrown into greater relief when contrasted with the
inadequate provision available to the aged and infirm needing inpatient
treatment.
