Eight thousand four hundred and ninety-two visits were made
and 348 rat and mouse infestations found. Of that number 322 were
found in private premises, 15 in business premises, 10 in Council
premises and 1 in agricultural premises.

With regard to sewers, two maintenance treatments were carried out, one in May and the other in November with the following

Shops Act, 1950.
This Act came into force on the first day of October, 1950, and
consolidates the Shops Acts 1912 to 1938 with certain other enactments
relating to shops. The Act covers not only hours of employment
but also arrangements for the health and comfort of shop
workers.
There are 500 shop premises on the register and 1,890 inspections
were made during the year.
Preliminary notices were served with regard to 10 infringements.
Two shops were provided with improved lighting; three shops
were provided with means of maintaining a reasonable temperature,
and three shops were provided with improved ventilation. Seats for
female shop assistants were provided in one shop and twenty-five
shops were provided with washing facilities.
Offices.
Sixteen inspections of offices were made but no action was
necessary.
Swimming Baths,
The one privately owned swimming bath was in use during the
year, and four samples of water were taken, all of which were
satisfactory.
Disposal of the Dead.
The number of interments in the Carshalton and Merton and
Morden Joint Cemetery Board's Cemetery at Morden during the year
under review was 405, and of this number 160 were from the Carshal-
