The new cases admitted to the tuberculosis register during the year numbered 147, classified as follows:

Of the total additions 89 were primary notifications, 58 were
transferred from other districts.
For the same period 106 names were removed from the register for
the following reasons:

Otherwise (including removals) 52
After allowing for the additions and deductions, the state of the
register at the 31st December, 1948, was as shown in the following
table :

The total of 770 is 41 more than at the corresponding date twelve
months earlier.
The Surrey County Council was responsible for the anti-tuberculosis
scheme in the area until 5th July, when under the National Health
Service Act, the curative aspects of the service were transferred to the
South-west Metropolitan Hospital Board. The number of patients
from Carshalton, who received institutional treatment under these
arrangements during the year was as follows
