Diphtheria.
The year 1946 was the most favourable yet in respect of diphtheria
prevalence. Of 13 cases notifed, 9 were patients in local hospitals,
1 was a hospital nurse and 3 only were residents of the district. These
figures give incidence rates as follows :
All cases 0.21 per 1,000 population.
Residents 0.06 per 1,000 population.
Only one house was affected by diphtheria during the year since
the three cases arising outside hospitals all occurred in one family.
None of these three patients had been immunised and one died of the
illness.
All cases were admitted to isolation hospital.
