Erysipelas.
Twelve cases were notified, all residents but two. The site of
infection was the face in seven, the leg in three, the ear in one, and
the finger in one. Two of the patients were admitted to hospital;
all recovered.
Pneumonia.
The notifications of pneumonia totalled 40, all residents but one.
Influenza was stated to be the cause in one case.
Measles.
Following a year when the district was free from measles the
epidemic wave returned in February, 1945, rose to a maximum in
April, and subsided in July. The number of cases notified was 686,
four of which were hospital patients not resident in the district.
Approximately half were in children 5—10 years of age. There was
one death in a child of five years suffering from diabetes.
