BIRTHS.
The number of live births registered was 816, of which 406 were
males and 410 females. The birth rate of 15.0 per 1,000 population
compares with 17.0 in the year before. Still-births totalled 20, giving
a rate of 23.9 per 1,000 total births.
No information is available from the Registrar General as to the
home addresses of babies whose births are registered outside the
district. For a computation of ward birth rates use is made of the
notification of births received under the Public Health Act. The
variation in the birth rates of the individual wards given below
follows that experienced for several years past.
The North-East Ward has the highest and the South-West the lowest birth rate.
