I.—NATURAL AND SOCIAL CONDITIONS OF THE DISTRICT.
Area, Population, etc.—The area of the District is 32,580 acres. The
population at the Census, 1921. was 34,118 persons, of whom 15,355 were
males and 18,763 were females; it was estimated by the Registrar-General
at 37,030 persons for the year 1925.

The population at each Census, 1891 to 1921, exclusive of the special inmates of the Banstead Mental Hospital, was as follows:—

In 1921 there were 2350 special inmates and 218 officials at the
Banstead Mental Hospital, and 678 inmates and 64 officials at the
Kensington, Chelsea and St. Marylebone Guardians' Schools, in. the
Parish of Ewell.
