The infection in two of the four cases of Enteric Fever was
certainly, and in a third case was probably, contracted in other
districts ; the course in hospital of the fourth case, which was notified
in 1925, rendered it probable that the disease was not Enteric Fever.
Under the Public Health (Pneumonia, etc.) Regulations, 1925,
only three case of pneumonia were notified in the five years, although
four deaths from Lobar Pneumonia, two from Influenzal Pneumonia,
eight from Broncho-pneumonia, and five from unspecified Pneumonia
were registered in the District. No cases of Malaria were notified.
The deaths from Influenza in the five years numbered five,
representing an average annual death-rate of 0.17 per 1,000 of the
population, as against an average rate of 0.37 for England and Wales
for the same period.
The Isolation Hospital for the District is the Cuddington Joint
Isolation Hospital. In the five years, 35 of the 37 cases of Scarlet
Fever, five of the eight cases of Diphtheria, and two of the four cases
of Enteric Fever were Removed.
After the removal, recovery or death of each patient, the rooms
were disinfected, and bedding and other articles were removed to the
Isolation Hospital and stoved in the Washington Lyons disinfector.
Measles and Whooping Cough were very prevalent in 1923, and
there was a localised outbreak of the latter disease in 1925. There
were two deaths from Whooping Cough and one death from Measles
in the five years. The homes of the children who are reported by
the School Teachers to be suffering from these diseases are visited by
the School Nurses of the County Council, and I visited the schools at
times of outbreak and advised as to precautions to be taken.
There are no facilities in the District for the cleansing of verminous
persons or their belongings.
