Two of the dwelling- which contained 1—3 rooms, 109 of those
containing- 4—5 rooms, 79 of those containing- 6—8 rooms, and 37 of
the remainder were occupied by more than one family.
The total number of occupied rooms in these houses was 16,051,
and the population was 12,433, or 1.29 rooms per person.

The following Table shows the number and percentage of families occupying from 1 to 5 rooms, and over 5 rooms, with the respective populations and the percentage of the whole population in private families, and the corresponding percentages of families and population in 1911.

Excluding families of one person only, 371 families, with an average
of 3.4 persons per family, occupied tenements of less than 4 rooms;
and 486 families, with an average of 4.3 persons per family, occupied
four-roomed tenements.
The average size of families in the District was 4.12, as against
4 36 in 1911.
In 1921, 21 one-roomed tenements, 24 two-roomed tenements, 10
three-roomed tenements, 26 four-roomed tenements, and 8 five-roomed
tenements, or 89 in all, were occupied under conditions of more than
two person per room, and their occupants formed 5.0 per cent. of the
population in private families. In 1911 there were 39 such tenements,
containing 3.3 per cent. of the population.
Rateable Value.—The rateable value of the District in March,
1926, was £127,904, and the amount represented by a penny rate was
£453.
Social Conditions.—The District is to a large extent residential,
and there are no special industries.
At the Census, 1921, the number of persons returned as engaged
in occupations were 3,673 males and 2,107 females. The chief numbers
