GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES FOR
THE AREA
LABORATORY FACILITIES.
Most of the bacteriological examinations for this district were
carried out at the Emergency Public Health Laboratory at
Epsom, including bacteriological examinations of milk, water
and ice-cream. Examinations were also carried out in respect of
certain infectious diseases at the Wandle Valley Isolation
Hospital where 52 swabs for Diphtheria and 7 sputa for Tuberculosis
were examined during the year.
The chemical analysis of milk, water and foodstuffs was
carried out bv the Public Analyst, Daniel D. Moir. M.Sc.,
F.R.I.C., 16, Southwark Street, London, S.E.I.
AMBULANCES
The Ambulance service is supervised by the Surrey County
Council.
Two ambulances are stationed at Mitcham Court, Telephone
No. Mitcham 3082. If an ambulance is not available telephone
Fairlands 8893 (St. Helier Hospital).
Disinfection
The disinfection of houses is undertaken by the Council.
Disinfection of bedding, etc., is done by the Wandle Vallej
Isolation Hospital.
No charges are made for disinfections carried out in cases of
notifiable infectious disease.
Public library books which have been in contact with cases
of infectious disease are disinfected at the Public Health Department.
