All samples were satisfactory with the exception of one formal
sample and two informal samples. The result of one formal
sample (beef sausage) was passed to the Ministry of Food. Action
was taken against the butcher concerned who was fined £2 with
£2 2s. costs. One warning letter was sent to a manufacturer
regarding an unsatisfactory food sample, and one warning letter
was sent to a manufacturer regarding unsatisfactory food
labelling.
MILK (SPECIAL DESIGNATION) REGULATIONS, 1936-46.
During the year the Council granted the following number of
licences under the above named Order:—

Pasteurised 7
Pasteurising Plant 1
Supplementary Licences—
Pasteurised 8
Tuberculin Tested 7
Ninety-one samples of Graded Milk were submitted for bacteriological
examination. Eighty-two samples were satisfactory
and nine were unsatisfactory. Communications were sent to the
dairies regarding the unsatisfactory samples.
BAKEHOUSES
The number of bakehouses in the district is 10.
Twenty-two visits have been paid.
DAIRIES
There are 10 registered premises within the district. With
the exception at one pasteurising establishment, milk is now
being supplied by the wholesalers to the dairy men in sealed
bottles.
During the year 91 visits of inspection were paid.
SLAUGHTERHOUSES
There are two registered slaughterhouses in the Borough, 21
