Day Nurseries
Eagle House has continued to give satisfactory service during
the year, and has a waiting list of cases for admission, although
there is accommodation for 85 children.
Robinson Road Nursery was opened on August 9, 1943, and
at the end of 1948 the register was full with a list of children
waiting for admission. The house has been adapted for nursery
purposes and, with the addition of a prefabricated section,
accommodation has been provided for 50 children.
The average attendances were as follows:—
Eagle House. Robinson Road.
Under two 23.29 (19.7) 11.659 (12.1)
Two—five 44.87 (40.4) 39.07 (36.3)
Total 68.16 (60.1) 50.729 (48.4)
A voluntary minders' nursery is held at Cavendish Road
Clinic each Friday from 1.30 p.m. to 4.45 p.m. The mothers of
the children have a voluntary committee of which the Health
Visitor is a member, which arranges the rota of minders. The
scheme has proved very successful, the average number of
children attending being 12 per session.
During the year the Committees were concerned with long
waiting lists for admission to the Day Nurseries. At the end of
the year provision of additional accommodation was under active
consideration.
