Infant Mortality

During the year 28 deaths were registered as occurring in infants tinder one year of age:—

Six (19) infants failed to survive the first month of life, and
prematurity was certified as the cause of death of 1 (5) of these
infants.
No death was recorded of illegitimate infants.
Maternal Mortality.
During the year one death was registered.
In 1947 one death was registered due to disease or accident of
pregnancy.
Inquests.
Inquests were held on 24 residents dying within the district
and on 13 Mitcham residents who died outside the district, a total
of 37. In addition, the coroner held 70 post-mortems without
as compared with 53 deaths last year.
