Cod liver oil emulsion, Virol or Parrish's Food, and extra
nourishment, including one pint of milk daily, were supplied free
to necessitous and debilitated mothers.
Remarks on Pathological Conditions
There were 53 cases of simple albuminuria of pregnancy,
eleven cases of toxaemia of pregnancy and one case of pyelitis of
pregnancy. Of the toxaemias, three cases were admitted to
Woodlands Maternity Home, five cases were admitted to the City
of London Maternity Hospital, and three cases were admitted to
Guy's Hospital. The case of pyelitis of pregnancy was admitted
to St. Bartholomew's Hospital.
Malpresentations were found in 53 cases. Of these, 22 underwent
spontaneous version, nine were corrected at the clinics, five
were corrected at hospital, and seven cases were admitted to
hospital.
An X-ray is taken in cases of doubtful presentation or of
suspected multiple pregnancy. Twenty-one cases had an X-ray
during the year.
Two hundred and nine patients were found to have some
form of dental disease, every case of caries from a slight degree to
severe decay being included in this number. The majority of
patients attended their own dentist, a number were referred to
the dental clinic, and a small minority of cases went to hosiptal.
Every case having a systolic blood pressure of 140 or over
is included under the term hyperpiesis.
Five hundred and twenty-nine pathological conditions were
found altogether, details of which are given in the following table:
