Meat Inspection
The amount of slaughtering at the two slaughterhouses in the borough was roughly the same
as in preceeding years. The number of cattle slaughtered was less but this was offset by an
increase in the number of sheep killed. The department continues to maintain a 100% inspection
of all animals slaughtered as far as this is possible, a rota system being worked by the
inspectorial staff to ensure that an inspector is on duty at all notified slaughtering times.
Slaughtermen
Thirteen men were licensed as slaughtermen, of whom nine were licensed to slaughter
horses.
