Notification of Births

The number notified last year was the highest for four years and as most of the additional births took place at home the percentage of hospital confinements fell to 83.1% as compared with 88.9% in the previous year.

Ante natal Clinics
The percentage of expectant mothers making at least one
attendance at an ante natal clinic was 69% during 1956 compared
with 66% the previous year. This has halted the steady decline
noted in previous years but it is too early as yet to draw any
conclusion from it. As a matter of interest the percentages for
the years 1949 to 1956 were, 74%, 79%, 77%. 75%. 72% 74%, 66%
and 69% respespectively.
