FACTORIES AND SHOPS
There is a general scatter of industry throughout the Borough,
with concentrated industrial areas to the east of the High Road in
the vicinity of the River Lea. The 725 registered factories vary
in size from those employing only 2 or 3 people to the larger
concerns with 2,000 to 3.000 employees. Regular systematic
inspections are carried out by the public health inspectors to
ensure compliance with those parts of the Factories Acts which are
enforceable by the local authority.
