Second Treatment of Sewers.
The second treatment of sewers was commenced on the 17th
January, 1944, and was completed on the 12th February, 1944.
A total of 1,111 manholes were baited, resulting in the destruction
of 4,483 rats.
As a comparison, it will be noticed that with the first treatment
for approximately the same number of manholes, 10,898 rats were
killed.
Shops Acts, 1912—1938.
In the administration of the Shops Acts, 4,387 inspections were
made by the Shops Inspectors. Most contraventions reported have
been minor defaults, such as non-exhibition of statutory notices,
in respect of which 261 verbal warnings and notices were issued.
