The Extent of Unemployment.
The state of unemployment may be gauged from the following
figures, supplied from the local Labour Exchange :—
The total number of persons normally in regular employment who
were registered at Tottenham Employment Exchange as wholly unemployed,
December, 1937, was 4,430. In addition, 196 persons were
registered as temporarily stopped. There were also registered as
unemployed 88 men who normally are engaged in casual employment,
making a grand total registered of 4,714.
