Defects were discovered at 2,461 premises, and 2,461 preliminary
notices and 397 statutory notices were served on owners requiring them
to remedy the defective conditions. 10,520 visits were made to premises
for the purpose of supervising work in hand, and to ascertain whether
notices had been complied with.
In 19 instances, the work was carried out by the Council in the
owner's default or at the owner's request.
The 1,442 houses visited for the purpose of house-to-house inspection
were situate in the following roads:—Almond Road, Arthur Road,
Chameleon Road, Chester Road, Clyde Road, Colsterworth Road, Conway
Road, Catherine Road, Devon Road, Eastbourne Road, Elizabeth Place,
Edith Road, Fairbourne Road, Falconer Road, Farningham Road, Ferndale
Road, Gladesmore Road, Glenwood Road, Gloucester Road, Greyhound
Road, Harringay Road, Henrietta Road, Howard Road, Lawrence
Eoad, Laurel Terrace, Lismore Road, Love Lane, Newton Road,
Northumberland Grove, Paignton Road, Paxton Road, Queen Street,
Seven Sisters Road, Summerhill Road, Templeton Road, Tewkesbury
Road, Thorpe Road, Victoria Road, Waverley Road, White Hart Lane,
Winchelsea Road.
842 drains were tested during the year with smoke or water. Defects
were discovered in drains at 367 premises. In 110 instances entire
reconstruction was necessary.

478 defective W.C. cisterns and pans.
453 ,, rain water pipes, gutters and waste pipes.

374 ,, floors.
998 ,, coppers and fireplaces.
