The following is a summary of the various parts affected:—
Swine.—39 whole carcases, 508 heads, 178 livers, 151 mesenteries,
90 lungs, 6 spleens, 4 hearts, 2 kidneys.
Bovines.—1 cow, 1 calf, 31 livers, 18 lungs, 8 tongues, 7 heads,
4 mesenteries, 3 spleens, 2 kidneys, 1 heart, 1 skirt.
Sheep.—3 carcases, 114 livers, 60 lungs, 1 heart.
MISCELLANEOUS FOODSTUFFS CONDEMNED.
Many foodstuffs are bought by retailers subject to examination,
and the wholesalers accept the certificates of your Inspectors as to their
quality. Doubtful canned goods and dried fruit are occasionally released
from the Docks with the consent of your Medical Officer and these are
subjected to special examination by your officers on their arrival in this
district. Under these arrangements the following goods have been
condemned and destroyed:—
7 boxes of Haddock.
½ cwt. Mussels.
2 tinned Hams.
1 box of Plaice.
15 Pheasants (these were seized and
condemned).
1 Turkey.
27 Rabbits.
3 tins Corned Beef.
3 boxes of Cod Roes.
2 tins of Salmon.

ADULTERATION, ETC.

I am indebted to the County Council (the Authority for administering the provisions of the Food and Drugs (Adulteration) Act) for the following information respecting samples taken in this district:—
