the timing and method of injection so as to avoid any possible
association of injection and paralysis From January to May,
the interepldemlc period for poliomyelitis, is a safe period .
for immunisation,, During the Summer and Autumn subcutaneous
injection can be preferred to and replace intramuscular
injection, and alum free non irritant forms of toxoid can be
used safely throughout the year, Otherwise, there is no need
to limit immunisation against Diphtheria. Medical practitioners
are in a position to advise and to exercise discretion when
necessary
It is desirable that the immunisation of all babies should
be carried out before the first birthday, and that reinforcing
injections should be applied before the child enters a nursery
school or day school, and again at the age of 8 or 9 years. A
close check is kept on the state of immunisation of new entrants
to schools and reinforcing injections are given at schools.
During the year 1950, seven hundred and forty two children
were immunised against Diphtheria. The number immunised at the
age of one year was four hundred and eighty three which represents
45 per cent of the babies reaching that age during the
year compared with 55 per cent for this age group in 1949.
One thousand seven hundred and forty four children received
reinforcing infections.

The following table shows the distribution in age groups of children who received primary injections during the year.
