MATERNAL MORTALITY:-The maternal mortality rate for the
year 1947 was 0,68 per 1000 total births. The rate for England
and Wales was 1.01 per 1000 total births. The one death was due
to post abortion sepsis.
INFANTILE MORTALITY :-The infantile mortality rate was 30.43
per 1000 total births, compared with 35.96 per 1000 total births in 1946.

The rate for England and Wales was 41 per 1000 total births. Of the forty-four deaths, thirty-four occurred in the neo-natal period, within one month of birth, as is shown in the following table of causes and age-groups.
