MATERNAL MORTALITY:- The maternal mortality rate for the
year 1946 was 0.70 per 1000 total births. The rate for England
and Wales was 1.24 per 1000 total births. The one death was from
pulmonary embolism.
INFANTILE MORTALITY The infantile mortality rate was
55,96 per 1000 total bi.rths, compared with 23.78 per 1000 total
births in 1945. The rate for England and Wales was 43 per 1000
thirty six occurred In the neo-natal period, within one month of birth, as is shown in the following table of causes and age-groups.
