MATERNAL MORTALITY:- The maternal mortality rate for the
year 1945 was 0.93 per 1000 total births. The rate for England
and Wales was 1.46 per 1000 total births. The one death was from
post partum haemorrhage due bo retained placenta.
INFANTILE MORTALITY:- The infantile mortality rate was 23.78
per 1000 live births, compared with 34.42 per 1000 live births
for the previous year. The rate for England and Wales was
46 per 1000 live births. This reduction in infantile mortality
is mainly due to a considerable fall in deaths from prematurity
from 13 in 1944 to 2 in 1945.
The twenty-five deaths of children under one year were due to the following causes
