MEAT AND OTHER FOODS.
The 57 butchers' shops within the Borough have
been inspected and observation kept upon the vehicles
used for the conveyance of meat, with the result that
it had been found that the provisions of the Public
Health (Meat) Regulations have been generally well
observed. Necessary action was taken in 28 cases
where sanitary conditions were not satisfactory, or
certain contraventions of the Public Health (Meat)
Regulations, 1924, existed.
By Order of the Corporation one Registered
Slaughter-house was removed from the Register on
account of non-user for a period of 21/3 years.
There are now two licensed slaughter-houses in the
district.
Following the inspection of carcasses in one
slaughter-house, the presence of Swine Fever was
detected. This resulted in the slaughter of all the
pigs on the farm on which the slaughter-house is
situated. This outbreak accounted for the large
percentage of whole cacasses condemned as shown
in the Table below.
