Work in default.
It was not necessary for the local authority to do any work because
of default on the part of the owners of properties, in connection with
the provisions of various Acts.
Other Work
Replacement of covers to manholes on public sewers were made in
four cases.
Work executed by local authority.
The Public Health Act gives under its various provisions, power to
local authorities to serve notices in regard to defective drainage, etc.
Notices were served in connection with three drainage systems involving
nine dwellings and three shops with living accommodation
attached.
Tenders were obtained in all these cases, the work being carried
out by contractors engaged by the local authority. Costs have or will
be recovered in all cases.
CLEAN AIR
The Measurement of smoke and sulphur dioxide by a daily volumetric
apparatus at the Municipal Offices was continued during the
year under review.
Towards the end of the year a second and similar apparatus was
installed in a block of flats at Oak Hall Court, Eastern Avenue, Wanstead.
A reflectometer was purchased during the year to assess smoke
stains with greater accuracy.
