In my annual report for 1956 I referred to the scheme introduced
by the Ministry of Health for the vaccination of children against
Poliomyelitis. Initially the scheme provided for the vaccination of
children born only in the years 1947 to 1954 inclusive, but during
this year the scheme was extended to include children born in the
years 1955 and 1956, and also recommended that a further opportunity
should be given to the parents of children born in the years
1947 to 1954 to register them if they had not hitherto accepted the
offer of vaccination.
During 1957, 1,531 children in the Borough received the complete
course of vaccination against Poliomyelitis.
