The County Council as the Local Health Authority had, for some
time, been considering the position of Day Nurseries in the
Administrative County in view of the reduced attendances and the
degree of priority allocated to the various cases for admission.
At this Day Nursery there were 7 children only whose family
circumstances fell in the priority categories and in view of this the
nursery was closed on the 31st December, 1956.
Alternative arrangements were made for these seven children at
a neighbouring day nursery. The parents of the remaining children
made their own private arrangements for the care of the children,
or where this was requested they were put in touch with a
registered Child Minder.
Nursery and Child Minders Regulation Act, 1948
Under this Act, any person who receives into her home for reward
three or more children under the age of five years to be looked after
for the day or a substantial part of the day, and premises, other
than those wholly or mainly used as a private dwelling, are required
to be registered with the Local Health Authority.
