ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SANITARY INSPECTOR
To the Chairman and Members of
The Wanstead Urban District Council
Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit the following report for the year
1925, my thirteenth year of office. A tabulated statement of particulars,
required in accordance with Article 19 (2) of the Sanitary
Officers Order, 1922, is included.
Complaints.—215 complaints were received; these were, principally,
in reference to sanitary defects, and to non-removal of house
refuse, including departures from the ordinary routine times of
collection.
Scavenging.—The collection and removal of house refuse is carried
out by contract, and the contractor is responsible for maintaining a
weekly collection throughout the year. The debris is carted away
from the district immediately following collection. Considerable inconvenience
was occasioned during the sharp December frosts, when the
condition of the roads was too slippery for horse traffic, and, in consequence
of which, collections were more or less disorganised throughout
that particular month.
With very few exceptions, portable galvanised iron dust bins are
in general use throughout the district.
Closet Accommodation.—There are no privies. Pail closets and
cesspools exist in isolated situations only, probably not exceeding a
dozen altogether; otherwise, the water carriage system prevails
throughout the district.

Arrangements for disinfection of premises and bedding and the extent of their use:—
