Tuberculosis.

33 new cases of tuberculosis were notified among residents in the District during the year, with the following distribution:-

The scheme of case finding by tuberculin testing of school entrants
was continued. The response has been very gratifying as parental consent
was given in respect of 517 (= 76.1%) of the ohildren. 6 of these gave
positive results and were x-rayed, together with other members of the
household. No infection was traced to any case of tuberculosis not
previously known to the chest clinic.
Vaccination and Immunisation Schemes:
1. Tuberculosis (B.C.G.)
Vaccination against tuberculosis was offered under the school health
service, to all children aged 13 years. The acceptance rate of this offer
was 63%.

All children who gave a positive reaction to the skin test were
referred to the chest clinic for investigation, but in no instance was
anything significant discovered.
2. Smallpox.
562 primary vaccinations were performed and 158 persons were
re-vaccinated during the year.
3. Diphtheria.
715 children completed a course of diphtheria immunisation during
the year. 536 re-inforcing injections were also administered.
