Cleansing of Verminous Persons.—Particulars are asked for as to the facilities available
in the district for the cleansing and disinfection of verminous persons and their belongings.
Neither the Education Authority nor the Sanitary Authority possesses a Geansing Station.

TUBERCULOSIS, 1935.
I repeat what I said last year, that in my opinion an open-air recovery school is a real
need in this district. It is impossible for those who have not been in close personal contact with
open-air recovery schools to appreciate what an open-air recovery school really means. There is
so much uninformed opinion with regard to what such a school means and does.
Pulmonary Tuberculosis.—The number of new cases notified including transfers from
other districts during the year was 105; of the new cases, 38 were receiving institutional treatment
at the time of notification, and 17 died. There were 44 deaths from Tuberculosis of the Respiratory
System. Twelve cases were transferred into the area, after notification in other districts.
Other Forms of Tuberculosis.—The number of new cases notified during the year
including transfers was 24. Of the new cases, thirteen were notified as receiving institutional
treatment, and four died. The total deaths were 9.
Deaths from Tuberculosis of non-notified Cases.—Twelve deaths occurred in non-notified
cases. Five deaths occurred elsewhere, and were transferred to this district.

The following Table gives further particulars of new cases notified and deaths in 1935.

TUBERCULOSIS.
The number of cases of Tuberculosis on the register at the end of 1933 was 342; at the end
of 1934 there were 359, and at the end of 1935, 390. Although these figures show an increase it
does not necessarily indicate an increase of Tuberculosis in the district, as in the same period the
population has gone up from 84,460 to 90,970, and in addition to some increase in the numbers on
this account, there is evidence that a number of people move into this district who may be
suffering from Tuberculosis in order to get more open conditions of living than is possible in some
of the London Boroughs.
It is, however, satisfactory to record that the deaths from Tuberculosis in this district have
dropped in the last three years from 76 in 1933; 72 in 1934; to 53 in 1935, and the death rate
from Tuberculosis for this area has dropped as follows :—
1933 .89 1934 .82 1935 .58
