Nuisances, Contraventions of Bye-laws, Defective Drainage, etc.
The number of premises on which nuisances were outstanding
at the end of 1923 was 497. To these another 470 premises whereat
nuisances were recorded in 1924 were added, giving a total of 967
premises. Of these 504 had the nuisances remedied, leaving 463
premises at which nuisances still existed at the end of the year.
During the year, nuisances at 19 houses were reported to the
Health Committee, which added to the 46 brought forward from
1923, make a total of 65. Before asking the authority to serve
statutory notices, the premises are inspected by the Medical Officer
of Health and Sanitary Inspector. Statutory notices were authorised
and served in most of these cases, and by the end of the year, the
nuisances were remedied in 26 of the houses, and in 1 case it was
resolved to take no further action, leaving 33 cases to be carried
forward in 1925.

It is my duty once more to point cut that the staff of Sanitary
Inspectors is inadequate.
It must be placed on record that twice during 1920, leccmmendations
urging the appointment of a District Sanitary Inspector
to fill the existing vacancy, were sent forward by the Health Committee
to the Council, but were defeated.
Premises and Occupations controlled by Bye-laws or
Regulation.
